We are doing biblical research. We'll be taking a look at scriptures so… if you’re able, get your bible, maybe a notepad, find a place to relax and push the play button directly below the title of this page.
In this session we’re getting into idioms. If idioms are new to you well… I’m excited for you! You are about to learn an aspect of biblical research that will make much plainer passages in the Holy Bible that have otherwise been difficult. Which gets people guessing as to the interpretation. You and I are not interested in what people’s guesses are when it comes to the Word of God. We are not interested in private interpretations. We are not held to denominational thinking. As a disciple of Jesus Christ… as a workman of the Word… as a biblical research student… ya’ve gotta drive this verse into your mind.
- Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture [*none of it] is of any *private [*= idios in the Greek. One’s own] interpretation.
- 2 Peter 1:21
To be a workman of the Word one must know… and understand… that God’s Word interprets itself. Understanding the idioms used in the time of a culture when scripture was actually being recorded unlocks deeper truths, hidden for more than a millennium. And…idioms may at times… as other biblical research principles do… give an answer to any apparent contradiction perceived in scripture. Lemme tell ya something. There are no contradictions in God’s Word. But we aren’t getting into the integrity of God’s Word here. If you’d be interested, there’s a link below on this page to my post on that. Here we’re talking about idioms. Let’s go over what an idiom is, why it’s so important to understand this and we’ll go over a few of them for examples.

If you’re brand new at this approach to bible study I do share (affiliate) links to books on Amazon in these podcast posts and sometimes in video Show Notes. Don’t get study guide materials. Do your own research! The tools you need are reference books. Build a library of reference books. I’m sure you won’t ever regret obtaining any or all of them! Got some of ‘em posted below.
