A lot of Christians have been taken by a series called The Chosen. I’ve watched the first two seasons as it is a wonderful production. But it is full of… shall we say… “artistic license.” As stated generally in the director’s statements concerning his effort. Especially the backstories on some of the characters. The one I saw that appalled me the most was portraying Mary Magdalene as a “backslider.” What the crew may have considered “artistic leeway”, I call an accusation. What I would like to know is who do they think they are putting that storyline in everyone’s head?! It will stick in the minds of those that don’t know the accuracy of God’s Word. And will require some effort for those people at some point to disregard and reject that concept. There is no place in the Holy Bible that even suggests such behavior on Mary’s part! But too many people will accept it as truth because…
They don’t know any better and
They don’t check the scripture for themselves to see if these things are so
Yeah, yeah many will say, “At the very least the bible is being portrayed and people are talking about it.” Well, if people are only going to talk about it without checking for themselves and blindly accept a movie as truth it’s not any better than going to some church that pushes the mainstream accepted doctrine. Which is pagan at its core. Not very noble, is it?
- And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
- These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
- Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
- Acts 17:10-12
The testament in God’s Word concerning the Bereans at this time was they were “more noble” than the Thessalonians in that they not only had an open mind… wait, scratch that. I really don’t like that term. Let’s say they were willing to consider what Paul and Silas shared with them. But! They didn’t “take it on faith!” They searched the scriptures for themselves to see the truth for themselves! In our day… or any time for that matter!… no one can seriously be considered a truth-seeker unless they do the work for themselves! Which is why I’m going over biblical research principles on my podcasts. So that others may learn how to properly approach the scripture. It would be very rare to find this information in any denominational church.
The Chosen is a great production. But that’s all it is. A production. Full of private interpretation (religion) and artistic license. Doing what movies do. Place false memories in our minds. How would you feel about this series if you knew there was Mormon doctrine in it? Or to know Jonathan Roumie, the man that plays Jesus is a Roman Catholic necromancer? Check out Little Light Studios’ take on it.
- Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
- As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
- But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
- Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
- 1 Peter 1:13-16
